​Dr Eleanor Hind
Dr Eleanor Hind is a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, currently employed as the Responsible Clinician on a locked forensic rehabilitation unit at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and as a Clinical Lecturer in Forensic Psychiatry at King’s College London. She has practiced regularly as an expert witness since 2020.

Dr Hind’s medical training was at the University of Cambridge. She has been a qualified medical practitioner since 2013 and a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists since 2018. She holds a master’s degree in Physiology, Development and Neuroscience (MA; 2014) and a medical degree (MB BChir; 2013) from the University of Cambridge. Her core psychiatric training was on the Maudsley Training Programme and Forensic Higher Training on the South London scheme. She is approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act (MHA) 1983 (as amended in 2007) as a medical practitioner with specialist expertise in the assessment and treatment of mental disorder, and she is an Approved Clinician.
Dr Hind’s previous experience includes training roles in general adult and adolescent services. As a forensic psychiatrist, she has worked in a wide range of settings, including high, medium, and low secure services (including male and female services), prison mental health services, offender personality disorder services, forensic community mental health services, and court liaison and diversion services.
She has completed additional special interest training in a sexual behaviours service and an adult neurodevelopmental disorders diagnostic service. She has additional training in the use of assessment tools for psychopathy, stalking, personality disorders, and autistic spectrum disorders. An area of research interest is in the neurobiology of psychopathy and she has completed a preparatory research fellowship with the Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Science department at King’s College London. She is continuing this research interest as part of her clinical lecturer role.
Dr Hind is a Clinical Lecturer for the Forensic Mental Health MSc programme at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience. She also delivers lectures on the Maudsley Training Programme MRCPsych course for Core Psychiatry Trainees and to Specialist Trainees in General Adult and Forensic Psychiatry. She is an educational supervisor to medical students.
EXPERIENCE OF GIVING EVIDENCE
Dr Hind has extensive experience preparing psychiatric reports and giving oral evidence in both Crown and Magistrates Courts. Through her clinical work, she regularly gives written and oral evidence to First-Tier Mental Health Tribunals, including on individuals with restrictions under section 37/41 of the Mental Health Act 1983, as amended in 2007. She also has experience preparing psychiatric reports in civil and extradition proceedings.
CASES UNDERTAKEN
Dr Hind has been instructed in relation to a wide range of criminal proceedings including violent offences, sexual offending, stalking, historical sexual offending, drug offences and murder. Instructions have included diagnostic issues, fitness to plead, effective participation, insanity, capacity to form intent, diminished responsibility, risk assessment and sentencing recommendations. She has experience as an expert witness in extradition proceedings. Civil cases have included personal injury.
